Dunns River Jamaican Restaurant in Hartford

Great find! Clean restaurant, and fresh food (visually and taste). The Food was amazing. The oxtails and yams were mild spice and tender . Really did enjoy dipping the coco bread in the broth. Definitely will revisit once in Hartford again.

DO NOT park at Star Chinese food and run over to Dunn's River. My medium meal cost me $120.00 due to my car being lifted on a tow truck. Verrrry angry...

The most popular Jamaican restaurant in Hartford. Its been around for a while and its food is always 👍. Eat in or take out. Wonderful soups. Excellent staff. You may want to phone in your order because sometimes it's packed with walk ins or use grub hub.

Love this place. They catered for my birthday and did a great job. The place was clean and the food is great. The staff were friendly for the most part.

Good good food I think it's the best of Hartford

I made the trek from Amherst to this place and let me tell you I was not disappointed . I got the brown stew fish with ground provision and I would 10/10 go there again. The food was absolutely sublime! The only thing was the peanut punch was kinda watery but I can’t blame them for that. And the Johnny cake was good to...it wasn’t hard to eat like big stone or nothing . Overall very good food and I will go back!

This place is my favorite. I go to a lot of restaurants but to this place I go the most. The crew is very friendly and the cuisine they serve is so flavorful. I never decline to have a good meal in this place. Highly recommended.

I’m Jamaican and I can say their food besides my moms is some of the best Jamaican food I have ever had. Nice staff, always! Food is always hot and has variety! The sit down atmosphere is also nice if you want to eat in, you’re served restaurant style. Again, the food is great! Their cornmeal & plantain porridge is to die for!!! Best Jamaican restaurant in Hartford! Highly recommended. The lines can be long so calling in is the best option, in my opinion.

At the first moment you enter that place they give you a pleasant feeling. Very congenial waiters, it is a nice restaurant to to go out with friends or with your date. yummy cuisine, skillful chef, decent cost and excellent service. Highly recommended.

Their food is good but staff is rude. Young woman at the counter placing food in the bag face was misconstrued the whole time. My first time ordering was a few days ago I was so confused asked the young lady is this where I ordered she completely ignored me. A customer finally told where to stand.

The food is always hot and fresh a little wait besides that the customer service is good that’s why I will always keep going back there I live in Springfield and I drive to Dunns River it’s definitely worth it. Far best Jamaican food around keep up the good work

Order medium Jerk Chicken with Rice/peas and veggies. Some of the best Jamaican food I have tried. The only reason I give it four stars is because my jerk chicken was missing some heat. Besides that a medium should be a regular persons two servings. I managed to finish it since I had not eaten all day. Parking is a bit of a mess but friendly staff and quick service. I always stop by when I’m going through Hartford, CT.

Not sure why this place has such a high rating. We tried it based on that. I found my chicken & rice to be incredibly dry and tasteless. We are not people that like a ton of salt but this rice needed some. My husband had oxtails and they were tough. I hate to write a negative review but unfortunately there are definitely better Jamaican restaurants in the Hartford area.

Food used to be very good and tasty! Now, cha!!! I have thrown away my food and money because of too much pepper in the gravy. Even after I ask and ask them not to allow the pepper to burst, no use! And to mention I spend $45 -$55 each time. Well no more... Good luck!

Food was lackluster to say the least...All menu listings were NOT available especially the 5 vegetarian options. What was available was made with frozen verses freshly cut vegetables. Whomever selects the cut of meat especially chicken, should be better informed. Chicken skin should NEVER be a part of a patrons meal!!! STOP BEING CHEAP AND USING CHICKEN WINGS FOR YOUR CURRY CHICKEN!!!

The steam fish, with white rice is excellent, when freshly made...Service is decent, and music is nice. Wait times could be better, but their not serving burgers here. Would have given a 5, but had maybe one or two slip ups here after 7pm with this place. Seems they tend to not make anything fresh fish Wise after a certain time. Also, it seems things are often not available, or they run out at times.

The main reason I wanted to write this review was for the fried dumplings.WOW. Biggest dumplings I have ever seen and eaten in my life. They were als super tasty!! If you're ever in town and want some great dumplings, this is the place!If your looking for a jump start into Jamaican cuisine this is the place to go. With many cult classics like oxtail, jerk chicken, curry goat this place has all your Caribbean needs and more.

Omg! I had the plantain porridge, fried dumplings, fried whiting with onions and peppers, salt fish fritters and rum cake. EVERYTHING WAS "AWESOME"Fresh and very tasty everything tasted like it was made from scratch very satisfying I will be returning soon!!! Happy Customer

Ordered curry goat combo, jerk wings and fried plantains. Food is delicious, price is very fair for what you get, portion are large. Definitely my newly found favorite place for curry goat in Hartford. Stop by for lunch and try some of their delicious lunch combos.

The food is usually good but today the fried chicken was burnt. The white rice was over cooked.

Why were my veggies spicy hot? Why were there hot green peppers in my food? Why was my fish spicy hot? Higher priced and smaller portions compared to others. My aunt finished her whole dinner in one sitting, and she never does that. Gave it a boost in stars because they do have a lot of patrons, so they must be doing something right, I guess. I'm not so impressed though.

The oil that chicken is fried in needs to be changed more regularly, good curry goat but stick to rice, the roti was greasy yet dry and hard.

The Jerk Wings are fall off the bones! Wow super delicious! If you’re looking for Jamaican food, look no further! The fried white fish (at the front of the restaurant) is spectacular with the dipping sauce I asked for. Wasn’t sure what I was gonna get, but it in itself is delish. A1 all around! Thank you!

Decent place to go for Caribbean dishes. Sometimes hit or miss with flavor and quality of food. Staff has gotten better with friendliness and attitudes.
